The Christmas experiment
I've been battling with my holiday urges for a month now... Why? well times have change. when I was working then I could feel the x mas spirit everywhere... at the office, the mall that I pass by every day,the streets of Ayala and Buendia and the never ending Christmas songs of the street children. This time its a bit different, I am at home and all I can see is our x mas tree, our decors and the neighbors Christmas decorations and I wonder... why not fight the x mas urges... the sudden trips to the mall, the exchange gifts and the x mas spirit that surrounds the nation. If your asking why? my answer is... wala lang! had nothing to do so why not experiment and the best subject for this experiment is none other than me!
Let me start with the why? I wanted to see if an average person can delay the x mas spirit and for how long. Then the how? I avoided malls, I avoided x mas carols and found myself listening to lady gaga most of the times and the most important part of the experiment is not think about Christmas at all. Then the results...
Before I discuss that, We Filipinos celebrate the holidays longer than the Caucasians they usually celebrate for a week or two and we do it for months. My main question is not about why but what if? what if we were like the others? will the x mas stress be lessen? or how will it feel like?
Today is Dec 21 and its 2:50 in the morning I woke up in the middle of the night and had an epiphany... It's almost Christmas and it struck me... we Filipinos does not celebrate it longer we just prepared for it more than the others. I was not stressed at all... yes I had my Christmas shopping but it was not that hard than before... gone are the days where I put deadlines on everything dates on where to go first and buy last but the spirit never dies.
It doesn't matter whether you decorated late or shop when almost everyone is done with their shopping as long as you know in your heart the true meaning of Christmas you'll be fine. I opened my window and most of my neighbors decors are already turned off but I smelled the air and it brings me joy that now I truly felt it's Christmas in the city... once again
It's almost Christmas... and I cant believe that!!! Merry Christmas everyone!!!
