I had a hard time choosing between Evita and Priscilla... and I thought I already seen Evita and I only wanted it because I wanted a copy of it, But with Priscilla, never seen it haven't seen any review about it... all I know is that this is a gay movie about drag queens... and that's it. I decided to drop EVITA for PRISCILLA.
After watching madam Aguilera's concert... my heart is racing with fear... I have seen a wonderful concert and it might affect my review... oh well... insert disc... I SAID!!!
the movie was set in Australia... I guess everybody knows about it (sorry not a movie buff) and I remembered TOO WONG FOO in the opening act. drag queens signing.... heheehhee anyway this is an old movie already so I need to lower my standards so could give a fair review. Old movies had a certain reputation of being boring unless you focused on the story itself... with the technology that they have before, it would be impossible to compare the cinematography so let's just base the review with the plot of the movie and the ending.
A story of three Queens who will travel across the continent for a gig... they traveled in style they dressed like stars and they capture attention every where they went. but deep inside the pink priscilla bus the story unfolds.
This is not a movie report just like in high school so don't expect a summary of the movie... the scenes are great especially the desert scene where a giant shoe is on top of the bus and mitsy is lip-syncing in full costume. the scenery's are perfect for every scene... they have captivated my heart every time they bust their lines.
The movie also shows a fathers love to his son, you will feel the emotion of a father scared for his sons acceptance. this also shows that prejudice is not cause by other people it is self inflicted... acceptance comes within and it will never be handed to you in a silver platter. The movie not only dea with family love, this also reflects th other kind of love... the love of a man towards a man. the purest of love comes when person doesn't expect anything in return just like what happened to Cecile and bob (I hope I got their names right).
Overall, I would rate this movie as a two star movie... not because its not entertaining but only for the sole reason that other movie such as TOO WONG FOO (thank you for everything- Julie Newmar) a remake of priscilla had resurface already with big stars and grand production... other gay themed movies is already out there... trying to out do the old..
For me this type of movie is a keeper... because this will remind us that at one point in time... PRISCILLA proves that being a pioneer really makes her THE QUEEN OF THE AIRWAVES
