The story of the charmed ones captivated us for more than 8 years already and it has fascinated millions of viewers ever since it’s first telecast… I vaguely remembered when I started watching the story unfold every season. The plot thickens every after episodes the twist and the turns of the story keeps me hanging on for more.
It al started with three women who can barely survive each other’s presence while surviving every demonic attack that befalls the sisters. On season 1, the plot revolves around the sisters lives after they found out that their witches. The story also focused on the sibling rivalry between Prue and Phoebe, two of the main characters of the show. Aside from their magical powers their ability to survive every circumstances and demonic situations the Show became popular amongst woman all over the world because of fact that this are average girls who just wanted to have a life… or should I say wanted to live a normal life that hey became accustomed to for years. Every girl’s big problem right? To be someone special not knowing that each one of them are special and unique.
I could go on and on about the charmed one story I can discussed and narrate every season to you my readers but what I wanted to focus on is the show’s ability to stay on air after each and every trials. Maybe it’s because of the story it self or the actors portraying the characters? I will never know for sure but I can give you a little peek of what I thought is the real power behind each spell casted season per season.
Staring off with the sister’s lives, Prue the older sister who only wanted what’s best for the sisters (the leader of the pack). With the power to control things and astroproject herself to another place is the coolest power ever seen on television, she also wanted a perfect life but I feel that if ever prue survived the demonic attack on season 3 she will be considered as the strongest witch among the sisters. A person that is knowledgeable with every artifact ranging from the Egyptians tomb to the Ming dynasty a competency that can greatly help the sisters fight their demons.
Piper, the middle child who acts as balance to the rivalry between the tough Prue and the free spirited Phoebe. The power to control molecules thus appearing as freezing time, Sooner she later finds out that she can also make the molecules move’s faster thus blowing up the thing or the demon that is affected by this sisters powers. Acted as the older sister when Prue died and when Paige appears to continue on the charmed ones destiny. As the story goes on a successful businessperson and a mother of two magical boys and the wife of a white lighter the story of the charmed ones almost evolves around this Sister. Maybe this has something to do with her as one of the Shows producer… we may never know.
Moving along with Phoebe, The sister who wanted to find love the optimistic of the three. The sister who has the power of premonition and empathy as the story goes on Phoebe’s active powers emerges to help fight demons, the power of levitation was seen used by this charmed one to aid her with attacks used more often with her martial arts skills. Being the sister with the most inactive power Phoebe rely on her martial arts skills most of the time to save innocents and most of the time to save the charmed ones from danger. Also as one of the producer of the Show Phoebe ended up with the cutest people ever, from the demon Cole to the cutest god Cupid. Branded, as the most powerful gift of all too bad viewers didn’t had a chance to see her powers in action.
Last but not the least, Paige the sister’s half-white lighter half sister… huh? LOL when she appeared I was hooked immediately to the show. With the power to orb like a white lighter and to control things with her mind almost the same with prue the youngest of the Haliwell completed the line of woman our first line of defense against the demons that lurks in the dark. Paige appearing on Prue’s funeral claiming that she was drawn to the sister’s emotions had difficulties adjusting as well with the fight for the greater good and all that comes with it.
The characters are complete 3 sisters destined to save the world. The oldest one dies and poooof another sister resurfaces to help with the battle. If your gonna ask me the show gets exciting when Prue dies of a demonic attack no offence to Shannon, Prue was great the character was effective she being the leader the most powerful active power ever the oldest sister deserved our respect however when she died the plot thickens will the power of three will ever be reunited will the demons get what they… the balance destroyed. Those questions was answered when they found out that they have another sister waiting to be ordained as the charmed one. Maybe the show was effective because it display the typical family. A dad that was never there for his daughters, a grandmother who always mingles with the sisters lives and a mother who they didn’t had a chance to grow up with. Problems that they will solve alongside with their demon problems.
Now back to my focus, Why did CHARMED survived the ratings battle of the real world? What kind of staying power do they have? In addition, what the hell are they doing that seems to have the approval of the entire world?
I will start with their target audience, Woman; the show displayed the most evident proof of their staying power. Majority of the viewers are woman of all ages and the main characters of the show are girls… Femme fatal, the charmed ones, another version of the ever famous Charlie’s angels… combined with spells, potions , knowledge about myths and other mythologies of the world, the outfits, the dialogues, and the urge to live a normal live captivated the entire population… every woman that I know can relate to the so called charmed ones. A small part of their target audience is men… and the show did not failed to give what most men wanted to see in a television show… The fight scenes, every man wants to see a girl runs in high heels gets thrown off the wall wearing almost see through outfits waiting to see ay wardrobe mishaps that might occur. Moreover, their second largest target audiences are the gay guys, being one of them; every gay guys dreams of meeting a charmed one seeing them in person imitating their lines such as “you don’t do that to me… I'm wearing Armani” sends thrills to my bones… LOL. Now that we have distinguished what kept the sisters a part of our lives we will now discuss their own recipe for a great show.
I wished I listened to my mom when she said to focus on math, Because for me, I believed that P3 (Pipers club) is the longest running club/bar in san Francisco it will be considered as one of the most successful club ever… better than BED hehehe. Well I know that this is just a show but come on people this club rocks they featured big artist, bands, and all I can say is this club really rocks.
The consistency of the Haliwell manor also spiced up everything, starting from the door the windows the rooms, the well-maintained attic the kitchen the living room that witnessed almost everything. Aside from the furniture, the manor is situated at the center of San Francisco; Demons called the manor the seat of the greater power the protector of the balance… and below the manor buried under the house is the shadow’s power neither good nor bad, the core of all the power in the world.
Still keeping up with the story… hehehe for eight long years the show will never be complete without the book of shadows… a compilation of spells and a dictionary of the demons and other mystical creatures the Haliwell Generation have faced all these years… The Haliwell line the most renowned witch line of their kind prepared for the coming of the charmed ones armed with knowledge gathered for centuries and the power of three, they kept our world safe from evil.
One of the most controversial show ever with its expected downfall when prue died the sisters battled to keep their place as one of the most original show in the planet. With story plot that deals with the future and the past that might affect the present time the charmed one faced them all from changing the past to change the present avoiding to make any major changes. To go to the future to help their offspring’s from danger and changing the present to change the future name it the charmed one has done it and they perfected every move. There is one episode where the charmed ones helped their ancestors for being vanquished by a time traveling demon not knowing that what they have done created the first impression of witches known today. The broom flying witches with pointed hats was used to wade off villagers that will burn their ancestors alive making sure that the charmed ones will not be born in the present time, this trick was done by Phoebe summoning her inner witch since their powers was not yet given to them in the past (a witch will always be a witch as the saying goes).
In one of the charmed ones season Piper’s youngest son Chris traveled from the future helping his family deal with an unknown demon about to take over the world by Kidnapping the most powerful witch alive Pipers first born Wyatt. Wyatt is born with witch powers and white lighters powers, but not the common kind this union is already known to the magical community (e.g. Paige) but what makes Wyatt unusual? He came from a charmed one and the most powerful white lighter destined to be an elder father. An unusual combination of powers concentrated in one boy made the plot more exciting.
Aside from the time travel, the spells and the magical world of the charmed ones these sister gave us another reality that will stay in our hearts for the rest of time. They gave us hope with every episode knowing that they will survive every demonic attack; they taught us to love with all our heart not worrying about the future for they believe that love is the most powerful magic there is conquering all rules. They also taught us that love could be either bad or good depending on the person’s perception. Love can be used to intense our anger aggravate pain and the worst Love can magnify all human emotion. Conquering these circumstances the charmed one has faced them all with a positive vibe that extended not only to their viewers but also to every one all over the world. Surviving every battle every demon while keeping up with their own lives these sisters are truly charmed.
